Slate & Terrazzo

Slate is a fine-grained, foliated stone . When expertly cut in a quarry, slate forms into flat, smooth sheets of stone. Slate is used primarily as a floor tile in the US, and can also be used for a counter-top. Though often grey, slate comes in a wide variety of colors from blue and green to purple and black as well.

Stone Sealing on Slate Tiles

Slate tiles do well when they are sealed with an impregnating stone sealer. Slate can be very slippery when it gets wet, and like a lot of stone, it can be porous. While slate is fairly hard as a rule, it naturally breaks into flakes, so you want to protect your slate as much as possible.

Terrazzo

Terrazzo is a composite material, and is used to make elegant and artistic accent areas of flooring. As it can be made into any shape or style, it is often used for example in commercial buildings for a corporate logo. Terrazzo is also used in residential homes as well and if you seal terrazzo, you can protect the pattern from spills, stains, and from damage as well.
